Description: Deep reductions in energy consumption can be achieved
in very cold climates following several basic design principles. Join
Ms. Coulson to learn about the process, systems and materials, and
example projects.
Profile: Carly Coulson (AIA, LEED® AP, Certified Passive House™
Consultant) is an architect focused on the integration of the diverse
disciplines that combine to make contemporary building into humane and
sustainable environments. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree
and is a Crown Scholar from the Illinois Institute of
Technology . She worked for Foster &
Partners in London on highly-innovative commercial buildings, including

St Mary Axe which won an RIBA Sterling
Prize. She received numerous awards for design excellence as a Project
Architect with Salmela Architect in Duluth. As Principal and Owner of
the architecture firm COULSON, she is currently working on two
multi-family projects and an educational facility that have targets of
LEED® Platinum, Passive House™ certification, and Net Zero Energy
Emissions.
